The inception of 89Minds, a concept-oriented indie rock band, was conceived in the imaginative minds of Michael Ramirez and Alberto Rincon. The pair shared a unique vision of fostering a vibrant, open-source style musical community.

Emerging from the lesser-known southeast side of Chicago, an area once humming with the prosperity of a thriving steel industry, Ramirez and Rincon decided to channel their shared passion for music into a singular, transformative project. Their mission was to collaborate with the region’s abundantly talented musicians to craft a distinctive genre of music. Their songs aim to inspire through over-arching themes of positivity, self-awareness, environmental consciousness, and unification.

The band, officially founded in November 2012, began as a small group of school friends, but it quickly evolved into something more substantial. 89Minds currently comprises core members Michael Ramirez, Alberto Rincon, Joseph Ortega, Zanneta Smith, and Michael Gonzalez, though its legacy is also shaped by former members Eric Rodriguez and Robert Paz.
